How to use cdict.ai

cdict.ai lets you search Chinese words and phrases by Simplified, Traditional, pinyin, or English. Results are optimized for learners with clear ordering, badges, and examples.

Searching

  • Type Chinese (e.g., 你好), pinyin with or without tones (nihao, nǐhǎo), or English (hello).
  • Partial words and short phrases work; longer sentences may return key terms first.
  • Use spaces or tone numbers if you prefer: ni3 hao3.

Reading results

  • HSK badge: shows the HSK level when available.
  • Part of speech: quick grammar context (noun, verb, interjection, etc.).
  • Sense order: most common or general meanings appear first.
  • Examples: practical usage when provided, with pinyin and English.

AI-assisted definitions

Definitions blend vetted dictionary data with AI-generated refinements to stay current with slang, technical terms, and evolving usage. AI output is grounded on base entries and filtered for safety and accuracy.

  • Newer senses and colloquialisms may appear sooner than in static sources.
  • We prioritize clarity and brevity; nuanced senses are retained when important.

Tips for better results

  • If you do not see the expected word, try removing punctuation or using a shorter phrase.
  • For tone-sensitive distinctions, include tone numbers or marks (ma1/ma2/ma3/ma4).
  • Check alternate forms: Traditional/Simplified spellings may both be listed.
